March 28, 2014 — Flame resistance of wire and cable is a critical safety factor in determining the correct product for specific environments. Be it residential, mass-transit, appliance or automotive each application carries its own regulatory standard.
There are many types of flame tests and all measure the ability to stop burning once the flame source has been removed. The most popular tests consists of various horizontal and vertical burns. Typically this involves a series of flame application to the specimen for defined intervals.
This past week Hueson Wire introduced a new addition to our in-house lab. This Atlas flame chamber will allow us to conduct internal flame tests as we evaluate new product. One of the biggest challenges in selecting non halogenated compounds for our green product initiative is meeting the various UL and IEE flame test requirements. The addition of our own in house chamber will expedite the process in bringing new product to market.
